Details and Learning Outcomes of Intermediate Conversation Levels I, II, & III
Intermediate Conversation I
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to communicate effectively, fully, fluently, clearly, and accurately using appropriate grammar and vocabulary about eating healthily, describing people’s personalities, expressing their views on art, living with computers, and expressing their opinions on ethics and values.
Intermediate Conversation II
Students who successfully complete this course will be able to communicate effectively, fully, fluently, clearly, and accurately using appropriate grammar and vocabulary about making small talk, discussing health issues, accomplishing tasks, reading for pleasure, and discussing natural disasters.
Intermediate Conversation III
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to communicate effectively, fully, fluently, clearly, and accurately using appropriate grammar and vocabulary about planning life, enjoying holidays, discussing inventions and discoveries, debating controversial issues, and observing the beauty of the world.
Definitions:
- Appropriate: Reasonable response
- Full: Response using a diverse vocabulary to provide proper detail
- Fluent: Smoothly flowing, uninterrupted response
- Clear: Clear and easily understandable by native speakers
- Accurate: Grammatically correct with appropriate use of colloquial expressions
Achieving ILR Level 2 in Conversational Competence
Students who successfully achieve the learning outcomes at each level mainly express themselves in conversation through listening and speaking (and to some extent, reading and writing), thereby attaining ILR Level 2 (so-called Limited Working Proficiency). The curriculum emphasizes integrated language learning materials.
Students reaching this level are expected to be able to answer test questions confirming their acquisition of the knowledge and skills described in each class with high accuracy (at least 75%).
