Vacations
Applying for a vacation does not count as an “absence” but also does not count as “attendance.” Essentially, these days are not counted as required attendance days.
Example for a period of 40 days with 8 days off
Type of Absence | Possible Attendance Days | Days Attended | Attendance Rate |
Unexcused Absence | 40 days | 32 days | 80% |
Extend-Vacation | 32 days (8 days not counted of 40 days) | 32 days | 100% |
Non-Extend Vacation | 32 days (8 days not counted of 40 days) | 32 days | 100% |
Example for a period of 40 days with 8 days off plus another 8 days of unexcused absence

Rules for Mandatory Expulsion
The factors leading to mandatory expulsion are as follows:
Factors Related to Attendance
Note that if you are expelled, you must leave the country or transfer to another school and obtain a new I-20 within 15 days.
Attendance-Related Factors
80% Attendance Rule | If your attendance falls below 80% for two consecutive semesters, you will be expelled after the end of the semester. |
60% Attendance Rule | If your attendance falls below 60%, you will be expelled after the end of the semester. |
Receiving an ‘F’ triggers a warning from the school, and if you receive ‘F’ grades for two consecutive semesters, you will be expelled.
